In doing so, we hope to share our experiences through the building process and then share our experience with the world. Then, we want to take it a step further and put some live chickens in out chicken tractor! Imagine that! Seriously though, it is all about having fun doing what you do. Life is too short not to take pleasure in the simple things. We know that is a cliché but it really is true. Truthfully, raising chickens is a simple pleasure. They are adorable from the time they are hatched and they each have unique personalities as they get older. But the truth of the matter is that chickens are a phenomenal source of food. Chickens are incredibly efficient and product excellent meat or eggs for the amount they consume. They eat just about anything. They eat bugs, worms, grain, bread and even egg shells. We feel it is important to understand chickens before building a chicken tractor. In our introduction, we will say that in the research we have done so far, chicken tractors are excellent choices for housing your chickens in a backyard setting. Chickens love to peck and search for bugs. Certainly, you could let them loose on your entire backyard or, the second option would be a chicken tractor which allows you to move their chicken coop and chicken run around the yard easily because it has wheels. Chicken tractors allow you to choose where your chickens will hunt and peck which can help with yard maintenance as well as keeping your chickens happy! So, we are marching on to build a chicken tractor! Please contact us with any questions: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

DIY Chicken Tractors

DIY Chicken Tractors DIY Chicken Tractors is a resource for chicken tractor plans. They have one of the coolest designs we have seen for a chicken tractor. It looks like it is ready to take on some rocket boosters and launch into space! It is definitely a 21st century design. It is seriously one of the first chicken tractors or chicken coops that is not surrounded by chicken wire. Now, we suspect that it is wise to use chicken wire on the inside of the run near the bottom but just the same, it is not visible at all! You just do not see many chicken tractors or chicken coops that do not use chicken wire. Many of you might be thinking that it is more expensive. We’ve priced out chicken wire and we have priced out 1x2’s. Honestly, for the coverage chicken wire is really not any less expensive than wood. Now, that being said, we still think chicken wire is more rigid and we would still incorporate it into the design on the bottom half of the run just to keep the chickens in place. There are other, less expensive ways to keep the 1x2’s rigid as well (like strip braces). Our main point was that we thought the aesthetic was really cool and we liked the chicken wire free design. This particular chicken tractor should support up to six chickens. It is complete with a hen house, nest, roost and chicken run. It has multiple access points. It should be as functional as it is unique and that is a neat combination.

Green Roof Chicken Coop

Herb Garden Chicken CoopEven though they do not have a chicken tractor, we had to mention this group because a green roof chicken coop is just a cool idea. Furthermore, they have looked at the DIY Chicken Tractor plans and are certain that they could easily modify the design to make it a green roof chicken tractor. They said that all you would have to do is place some 2x2 supports on the inside of the run and cut some plywood to specification. Green Roof Chicken CoopThen, they would add some pond liner and all of a sudden, you have a DIY Chicken Tractor! We thought that was interesting. Anyway, Green Roof Chicken Coop also has some unique designs and they are worth checking out. The idea of a garden on top of your chicken coop is a lot of fun which, of course, is why we decided to review them! Honestly, with a little creativity, many square or rectangular shaped coops can be transformed into chicken tractors. We just want people to keep in mind that a chicken tractor is usually more susceptible to predators inside of the run area because it is slightly elevated from the ground. It’s something to keep in mind with chicken tractors. It is critical for a chicken tractor to have a secure hen house. Both versions of the green roof chicken coop have a completely enclosed hen house. Anyway, we liked the green roof designs and concepts so we thought we would include them here.
